As part of a landmark initiative between India and Japan, MET City (Model Economic Township), a wholly-owned subsidiary of Reliance Industries Limited, has been designated as one of the 11 official Japan Industrial Townships (JITs) in India. This initiative stems from a bilateral commitment to promote Japanese investment, particularly across strategic corridors like the Delhi-Mumbai Industrial Corridor (DMIC) and Chennai-Bengaluru Industrial Corridor (CBIC).

  • Officially Recognized Site: MET City, Jhajjar, Haryana was identified as one of the core sites for JITs under the Indo-Japanese industrial cooperation framework.
  • State and Central Government Support: The initiative is driven jointly by India’s Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT) and Japan’s Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI), with implementation support from “Japan Plus” and JETRO (Japan External Trade Organization).
